PRESS RELEASE
RE: Workers on the Top of Tanks

Last week over 60 industry leaders gathered in Fond du Lac, WI to discuss the important issue of “Workers on the Top of Tanks”, and more importantly, how our industry can join together to effect improvements in this area.  Participants at this landmark summit included major shippers, large carriers, wash rack operators, a leading cargo tank manufacturer and other industry stakeholders.

Among the many highlights of this meeting were …

1. The adoption of a name for our whole group, the Cargo Tank Risk Management Committee (or, CTRMC).  This name was chosen in recognition of the possibility we may choose to tackle industry safety issues in addition to “Workers on the Top of Tanks”.

2. The formation of a Steering Group to ensure this initiative grows and is successful.  This group is comprised of nine industry leaders from nine unique companies representing shippers, carriers, wash racks, and manufacturers.

3. The launch of a program to create and publish a living document (and other media) addressing “Workers on the Top of Tanks”.

4. A commitment to develop a list of short term approaches to enhance the safety of “Workers on the Top of Tanks”, especially on existing tanks.

5. An objective to draft a long term vision on how transportation tank processes and products can be improved to maximize the safety of “Workers on the Top of Tanks”.

The steering group is set to convene for a follow-up meeting in Chicago this June.

As all industry summit participants realize the importance of gaining consensus amongst the majority of industry stakeholders, the steering group encourages all major shippers and carriers to participate in the next regular meeting, tentatively set for September.  Please email jfcannon@walkergroupholdings.com if you are interested in joining us for the September program.
